Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden World Series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, our country," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player in the world that I want up in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays won the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
