Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
