Shocking Unearthing: Remains of Vanished Mother and Child Located in Freezing Units in the Alpine Nation
The remains of a 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter have been discovered inside freezing appliances in an residence in western Austria.
The deceased, a woman from Syria and her daughter, who had been unaccounted for for a number of months, were found on the end of last week. The cooling units were concealed behind a false wall in the flat, located in the Innsbruck area.
Two individuals, a 55-year-old Austrian and his 53-year-old brother, were arrested in the month of June. The elder brother, a colleague of the female victim, informed police last week that there had been an accident—but denied murder.
Speaking to the media previously, a official for the state prosecutor stated the pair were being detained on "serious suspicion of homicide".
The names of those concerned have been withheld by authorities, in compliance with local legislation.
The family's disappearance was first reported by the female victim's relative, who resides in Germany, on 25 July 2024.
Police stated the male associate informed them at the time she had embarked on an prolonged visit with her daughter to see her family in the nation of Turkey.
The mother's debit card was then discovered to be utilized abroad on multiple occasions.
Yet when investigators searched the woman's home, her cellphone was located.
An individual also stated listening to a disturbing sound in the apartment, and shouts of "mother" on the day the two were thought to have disappeared.
A wider official inquiry was initiated, with investigators discovering several texts sent from the victim's mobile—among them a job termination message to her company and texts to the male associate.
Authorities said a significant cash transfer was also sent to the individual.
The head of the State Criminal Police Office informed reporters on that day that a rented space had been leased before the mother and child went missing and a freezing appliance had been installed within.
The brothers took out the appliance from the unit on the very day the victims disappeared, she revealed. And a shortly afterward, they acquired another freezer.
Officials say they consider this suggests the deaths were planned in advance.
"How they died was not identifiable due to the advanced decay of the remains," Tersch commented.
The prosecutor's spokesman—from the legal authorities—said the precise timeline is still unclear, but the remains were professionally hidden and went unnoticed during a earlier inspection.
Although the brothers were taken into custody in the summer, it was not until 12 November that the elder brother confessed to an incident and to concealing the remains. He rejects any plan to cause death, officials stated.
Meanwhile, his younger brother admitted to a concealment but rejected awareness of a murder.
The two suspects are presently in detention before court proceedings in detention centers in two Austrian cities, situated at a distance.
Through a combined announcement, Austria's Minister for Women and Justice Minister stated the "suspected killing of two... constitutes the abrupt and violent termination of two human lives and reveals a heartless setup".
"Females of all ages are being murdered due to the simple reality that they are female," they continued.
"Femicides are a strongly established and issue affecting all of society that we must combat firmly."
