A man who spiked treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities once more.
She stated the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
