Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any damage is unclear and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
It said debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
