Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior representative stated the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
