American Military Executes Deadly Attack in Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities
According to a high-ranking military spokesperson, the US military executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Prior Strikes
This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military presence.
Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Defends Actions Amid Pressure
The government has encountered increasing pressure to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's sitting leadership.
